Quick answerCreate one Project, add the tracking code to your pages, tag ad URLs with UTM templates, connect sales tracking and test once. Starter, $79 a month on monthly billing, covers one site.

How to use ClickMagick: the short version

To use ClickMagick, you create a Project for your website, add its tracking code to your pages, tag every ad URL with UTM parameters, connect your sales or affiliate conversions, then test the path before you spend. ClickMagick's Setup Wizard walks through these steps in order right after signup, and you can reopen it at any time from the Learn menu under Getting Started. This guide follows ClickMagick's knowledge base as read on 3 October 2026; we have not used the product hands-on.

What you need first, and which ClickMagick plan to start on

  • An account. Plans start with a 14-day free trial. Starter is $79 a month on monthly billing, or $790 a year on yearly billing, and covers 10,000 tracked visitors, 1 user, 1 website or store and 1 ad account per platform.
  • Edit access to your pages. You will paste code into your landing pages, funnel builder or store.
  • Access to your ad accounts. ClickMagick lists integrations with Facebook, Google, Microsoft, TikTok, LinkedIn, X and ChatGPT ads.
  • For affiliates: a network that supports postback URLs or Sub-IDs.

Starter is enough to learn the tool on one site. Standard at $199 a month on monthly billing raises the allowance to 100,000 tracked visitors and adds 2 team members; the plan comparison shows the other differences.

The six setup steps in ClickMagick's Setup Wizard

  1. Connect your ad platforms. This lets ClickMagick pull in ad cost and send conversions back.
  2. Create a Project. The documentation suggests one Project per website or business.
  3. Set up tracking. Add the click tracking code to your landing pages. Then connect a sales tracking integration if your checkout platform has one, or use ClickMagick's sales tracking code. Action code on a thank-you page records opt-ins.
  4. Add UTMs to your ad URLs. Open Tools, then URL Builder. For Facebook, copy the Facebook tracking template and paste it into the URL parameters field of your ads. For Google Ads, build a UTM-powered URL and use it as the Final URL.
  5. Confirm your setup. Make sure clicks and conversions arrive, for example by clicking your own tagged URL and completing a test opt-in.
  6. Turn on Audience Optimization. This sends your conversions back to the ad platforms.

A custom tracking domain for your Projects is optional and can be added later. It needs a subdomain with a CNAME record, and ClickMagick allows one. The custom domain guide covers the DNS steps.

Worked example: an affiliate running Meta ads on the Starter plan

[your business] promotes one affiliate offer from a network that supports postbacks. It has its own landing page and buys about 6,000 ad clicks a month, which fits Starter's 10,000 tracked visitors, 1 website and 1 ad account per platform.

  1. Create one Project and add the click tracking code to the landing page.
  2. In URL Builder, copy the Facebook tracking template and paste it into URL parameters for the ads in Ads Manager.
  3. Open Tools, Affiliate Tools, Affiliate Link Builder. Choose the network, paste the affiliate link, and put the updated link on the landing page. It adds a ClickMagick visitor ID.
  4. Open the Postback URL Tool, copy the postback URL for that network and add it in the network account. ClickMagick's guide says to pick the URL or postback type, never pixel, iframe, HTML or JavaScript.
  5. Click through once and confirm the click shows in the Project.

Cost check: twelve monthly payments of $79 come to $948, against $790 on yearly billing. If traffic goes over the plan limit, ClickMagick upgrades the account to Standard, $199 a month on monthly billing, until you downgrade it yourself, so check the Billing page during busy months. ClickMagick's own help articles disagree on the cushion above the plan limit before the automatic upgrade: one says 10% and another says 25%. The postback URL guide goes deeper on step 4.

Mistakes to avoid, as ClickMagick's documentation describes them

  • Using Smart Links for paid ads. The Smart Link guide says Smart Links are not designed for paid ads and do not track conversions, and that ad platforms generally do not allow links that redirect to another domain. For ads, use a Project and UTM-tagged URLs to your own page.
  • Testing twice without clearing test data. ClickMagick records one unique click and one conversion per visitor, so a repeat test shows nothing new. Choose Delete Test Clicks in the Edit menu before retesting. Warning: that deletes the test clicks and conversions you generated on your own site, so use it only to clear tests.
  • Inconsistent UTM values. The documentation recommends lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only, and always setting utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign.
  • Reading too much into the first sales. A sale from someone who clicked before the code was installed is recorded but shows as organic.

When ClickMagick is not the tool to learn

These steps suit someone sending paid or email traffic to pages they control and who needs to tie spend to sales. If you only place short links in social posts and want click counts, a link shortener is simpler: see ClickMagick vs Bitly. If you run redirect campaigns on pop or popunder traffic, ClickMagick's Fair Use Policy says the service is not meant for high volumes of it, and BeMob, which lists pop among the ad formats it tracks, is the alternative to check.
